Tofu Bacon Recipe

1 package tofu (14 ounces)
3 tablespoons oil
2 tablespoons liquide smoke
2 tablespoons soy sauce (gluten free tamari or brags works similarly)
1/4 cup nutritional yeast

1 teaspoon cracked black pepper

Press or dry off the tofu using a towel.  Slice the tofu into 1/4 inch slabs and dry off again

Heat frying pan add 2 tablespoons of oil and heat for one minute.  Add 1/2 of the sliced tofu.  Fry for about 3 minutes or until it gets golden and crispy. *There is no need to stir or mess with the tofu in any way until its crispy.  Turn over and cook for additional 2 minutes or until said crispiness.  Once crispy on both sides remove tofu from the pan and add the other tablespoon of oil and heat it for a quick minute. Then add the other half of the sliced tofu and fry just as you did the first half.

Once all the tofu is cooked return all of it to the pan and reheat on low.

Add the soy sauce and liquid smoke and toss until all is incorporated.

Add the nutritional yeast and continue to toss and stir the bacon until all of the nutritional yeast has been saturated from the liquids.

Finish the bacon with fresh cracked black pepper.
